The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/vpd\/pneumo\/hcp\/who-when-to-vaccinate.html\">recommends<\/a> the following groups stay up to date with their pneumococcal disease vaccines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Children younger than 5 years<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Children 2 through 19 years with certain risk conditions including chronic heart, liver, kidney and lung disease (including some cases of asthma), cochlear implants, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/vpd\/pneumo\/hcp\/who-when-to-vaccinate.html\">others<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adults 19-64 years old with certain risk conditions, including chronic heart, liver, and lung disease, diabetes,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>cigarette smoking, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/vpd\/pneumo\/hcp\/who-when-to-vaccinate.html\">others<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adults 65 years or older<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What vaccine options are available?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>CDC recommends two types of pneumococcal vaccines, pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) and pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccines, based on age and past pneumococcal vaccination history.
